OUR STORY

Tabernacle Baptist Church began in October of 1898. A group of Bible believing people branched off from Western Avenue Baptist Church and became known as Tabernacle Baptist Church of Chicago.


The Church was located at the corner of Spaulding Avenue and Monroe Street in the city of Chicago. Rev. W. H. Geistweit became the first pastor. The ministry flourished over the years.

A HISTORY OF COMMUNITY

Pastor Harold Sanders became pastor in February of 1959. During his tenure the Church decided to branch out into the suburbs and start another ministry. On October 18, 1959, the Church located at 409 North 8th Avenue in Maywood, IL had it’s first Morning Worship Service. 



Tabernacle Baptist Church has served the Maywood Community for over 60 years. We continue to serve in this diverse community today. Rev. Michael H. Lavery has been our pastor since November 1979.

    At Tabernacle Baptist Church, we are committed to sharing the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and making disciples. Through loving and serving, we endeavor to live our lives as examples of God's grace and love. When you join us for worship, you can expect to engage with a church family that will encourage and equip you to grow in your faith. From the youngest to the oldest, there is a place for you here!
